AROUND THE GREENS

YMGCR Bowls

With so many members away the committee has decided that the AGM will be held at a later date in September.

The club will inform the members when a date will be fixed.

Marie Morffew will be invited onto the committee as the new Ladies Match Committee Chairperson as she was the only nomination for that position and with all the other positions the same, the club will continue to function as normal.

Social Bowls Activities –Nominated Social Bowls Sets Play

The first round of this competition was conducted on Thursday, May 27 with ten teams taking to the greens on a somewhat cool day with periods of sunshine.

The competition is over in a couple of hours which pleases the participants especially in the colder weather.

Even so there was some great bowls played on the day and everyone appeared to enjoy the competition and camaraderie.

This is the first of four rounds however the pandemic COVID-19 struck again and the club have been unable to complete the tournament in the allocated time.

Winners of round 1 were: Norm Windebank, Barbara Tennyson and Albert Dodman being the only team to win all three sets. Congratulations.

Coming in second place was Ray Butler, Paul Kelly and Shane Maddern with two games up and scoring 20 shots, one shot more than their next rival.

And that was it for the next couple of weeks with the dreaded COVID intervening once again.

This has necessitated that round 2 be delayed until Thursday, June 17 commencing at 1pm with a roll up at 12.50pm. Please be early. Let There Be Light

The club are so grateful that they have a Board and CEO of ClubMulwala that are so progressive and forward thinking in relation to the recreational facilities that they provide for their membership.

This past week the club have seen the installation of lights over the greens which will give more scope to the types of activities that the club are able to conduct in relation to competitive and recreational lawn bowling.

These lights will open the greens up for club and corporate activities and will be a real asset for years to come.

Thanks go to the CEO Mr Alan Rowe, the

Club Mulwala Directors, special mention to Mr David King Director and Club President Graeme Arnold.

Now all we need is some ‘warmer’ weather. AGM – Don’t forget the Annual General Meeting on Sunday, June 20 at 11am.

This will be followed by the Presentation Luncheon at 12 midday.

That concludes the report for this week. Hopefully the restrictions we enjoy will be reinstated this week.

In the meantime stay safe, stay healthy and look out for each other.

Although a little late due to lockdowns and restrictions, condolences go out to Val Burch’s family. Val was a well-liked past member of the club. RIP.

Well, it’s good to be out of lockdown again and have the restrictions lifted enough to be able to bowl.

It is winter and not everyone can go north to the warmer weather, so rug up (these days there are clothes that are warm without the weight or restrictions) and come down to keep fit, socialise and keep/get your bowling on track.

Congratulations to youngest member Koby Cromie on being picked to play in the 2021 Junior Golden Nugget Team.

They will be playing in Queensland in July, good bowling Koby.

The club will be holding a tournament in July so keep Sunday July 18 in mind; more on this next week.

To those going north for the winter, enjoy the warmth, stay safe, and we look forward to your return before the new bowls season begins.
