Meeting and conference dates changed

BY ROBERT MUIR

The 2021 Local Government Election has been postponed until December 4, 2021 with postal voting closing at 6.00pm, December 17. Election results will be declared progressively from December 21. The election was to be held this month.

“Due to the changes to the election date, council staff have had to review the proposed induction schedule and determined new dates for the induction which will occur in January,” council’s General Manager Adrian Butler said.

Council’s December meeting has changed from December 21 to December 23.

Any motions for submission for the 2021 Local Government NSW (LGNSW) Annual Conference by Federation Council will be considered at council’s monthly meeting on October 19.

The deadline for submitting motions for the LGNSW Board’s consideration is midnight, Sunday, January 30, 2022.

This year’s LGNSW conference has been postponed due to Covid-19. The annual conference will be a one-hour, online event on November 29, 2021 followed by a special conference from February 28 to March 2 in Sydney.

As usual, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and General Manager will be Federation Council’s nominated voting delegates, as unanimously agreed at council’s August meeting.

The LGNSW Annual Conference is the main policy making event for the local government sector.

Motions passed at conference become resolutions which LGNSW takes forward on council’s behalf, as part of the sector’s advocacy agenda.

Before these items were raised in council on August 17, Mayor Pat Bourke mentioned the one item he had in his Mayoral Minute. “It’s my wife’s birthday,” he said. “Happy birthday! Without her support, I wouldn’t be able to do this job.”

Federation Council’s January 2022 meeting has been cancelled, to enable the first stage of the councillor Induction to be conducted.
