Covid case recorded in Yarrawonga

Yarrawonga has recorded its first COVID-19 case since before Easter last year after Yarrawonga Health confirmed the news on Monday morning.

A Yarrawonga Health spokesperson confirmed an individual presented to the COVID-19 drive-through testing clinic and tested positive to COVID-19 on Sunday.

The person acquired COVID-19 within the local region and was infectious within the community with contact tracing continuing and Yarrawonga Health continuing to monitor the wellbeing of the positive case while the individual quarantines at home for 14 days while they recover.

At the time of the Chronicle going to print no exposure sites had been listed and no further cases had been recorded but Yarrawonga Health was working with both NSW and Victorian public health units.

Unexpected COVID-19 viral fragments were also detected in wastewater samples taken from Yarrawonga for the period of October 12 - 14.

Cobram has also experienced repeated unexpected detections for the period from September 29 onward.

Yarrawonga Health CEO Elaine Mallows urged the community to stay vigilant during this period.

“Yarrawonga Health is urging people to get tested. Anyone with symptoms, no matter how mild, (such as fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of sense of smell, loss of taste, headache) should get tested immediately,” Ms Mallows said.

“May I remind the community the best way to protect yourselves and your family is to get vaccinated. Please check in using the QR code, or written check in, wash your hands regularly, wear your mask and maintain a social distance of 1.5 metres wherever possible.

“Please note, some people with COVID-19 have reported symptoms of nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea with an accompanying headache so please do not dismiss these symptoms.”

Do not delay getting a test for COVID-19 and stay at home until you receive your test result.

The Yarrawonga Health drive-through COVID-19 testing clinic operates seven days a week 9.30am – 12.00pm and extended hours in line with community demand.

Access via the Yarrawonga Fire Brigade Training ground, Woods Rd, Yarrawonga. Testing is also available at the Wangaratta Showgrounds Screening Clinic, open 8.00am – 4.30pm, no appointments necessary.
