Sunday Tip reopening likely

BY ROBERT MUIR

Users or would be users of local landfills and transfer stations at Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala appear set to have their wish for a return to Sunday morning opening hours.

The subject was on Federation Council’s agenda for its monthly meeting yesterday, with a recommendation in line with residents’ and councillors’ wishes. The recommendation was from council’s director engineering services Steve Carmichael.

Council reduced the opening hours at the three sites on August 1 in line with customer usage data and council’s ongoing commitment to improve efficiencies of its services.

After much discussion by Federation councillors at their September meeting, and a leading statement from Mr Carmichael as to how the service would be funded, council decided a report be presented about the possibility of Sunday opening hours for the Howlong, Corowa and Mulwala Tips.

That report was presented at council’s October meeting yesterday. The report, by council staff, follows a Notice of Motion by Cr David Longley that council immediately reinstate a Sunday opening of the three Tips “which better serves the residents of those communities”.

A report will appear in next week’s edition of the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
