BOWLS

ClubMulwala Outdoor Bowls

Tuesday, October 12 – Social Bowls

A good turnout of just under 30 bowlers took to the greens for a great day of bowling.

With more practice under the belt and the Club Championships underway, the bowls have improved out of sight.

Winners were – Joan Connor, Graham Archard and Russell Cook.

Runners Up – Barry Pitt and Judy Lauchlin. It was great to see Judy Laughlin back on the greens after a long absence for health reasons. Judy doesn’t seem to have lost any skill and bowled beautifully on the day.

Thursday, October 14 – Twilight Social Sets Play

Once again this Social Bowls game was cancelled due to the weather and members withdrawing from the activity.

It is important that we look after our members who want to participate however have had serious health problems and cannot risk playing in adverse wet and cold conditions.

There are more important things than a game of bowls and we can always reschedule the game which has been done in this instance to Thursday, October 21.

Saturday, October 16 – Social Bowls Pennant Practice

Good to see so many members on the greens again enjoying a game with great camaraderie between players.

A very popular Graham Albert played in his first game after a long absence due to illness. It is hard to keep a good man down and Graham has had more than his share of bad luck over the last couple of years however he never complains and just gets on with it.

Good to see you back playing the game you love mate.

Another new member in Bob Keats was welcomed to the club. Bob has been out of the game for about six years and we wish him well and look forward to him having many happy times on the greens.

Frank Exton has also joined the club and we welcome him and hope that he enjoys his time with the club.

Members look forward to having Frank on the greens and becoming a valued member of the club.

Sunday, October 17 – Club Championship Matches round two

Played during the week Liz Murdoch 25 defeated Jan Morton 3.

Ladies Matches - Sunday

Liz Murdoch 25 defeated Anita Albert 10. Kay Smith 27 defeated Joan Connor 12.

Men’s Matches

Peter Humphreys 25 defeated James Murdoch 15.

Mick Millsom 26 defeated Daryl Dighton 18.

Graeme Arnold 26 defeated Gary Parker 18.

To play – Malcolm Miller V Trevor Loe. The saying that ‘scores do not always indicate the standard of bowls’ proved very true in most of the matches in this round.

Some brilliance was on display with many of the games scoring just one shot on each end and, as is the case on most occasions, a mini break by one of the contestants was extracted after a protracted period of tension.

None of those who lost their matches should be bitterly disappointed with their games remembering that we have only just recently been allowed back on the greens, even to practice let alone play under match conditions.

YMGCR Bowls

Wednesday Social bowls had a field of 36 players, and in a tight finish there were 4 two game winners with scores ranging from +12 to +15.

The winners this week who won on a countback were John McGough and Pam Dodman.

Runners up were Robert Lidgerwood and Vicki Withers. Jackpot also went off this week and the lucky winners were Shane Maddox and Noel Millar. The lucky number was won by Doddy.

Friday Bowls had another capacity field of 56 players (so get your name down early so you don’t miss out on this popular day) and the winners were Rhonda and Ray Irvine.

Runners up were another married couple in Viki and Col Withers (these 2 have won so many prizes the last couple of months that they bought a couple of extra steers for the farm).

The 2 consolation prizes went to Alan Goudge and Dougie “Boy” McTier and Carolyn Boston and Neville Coleman.

On Saturday, October 23 there will be a practice match against Cobram. There is a list on the board with all the details; sides will be picked on the Friday before the game.

Also, there is a list for Midweek practice games.

Don’t forget the AGM is on October 31 starting at 10am in the Willow Room. If you could get there a little bit earlier because you have to be registered, then at 1pm we will have the opening of our greens followed at 3pm with a afternoon tea (current club uniforms must be worn)

One of our older mates in Peter “Captian” Wallis had a fall in Safeway then went home and had another. He was then sent to Melbourne but in good news he is at now home and getting back to a full recovery.
