Getting ready for stadium

Preliminary works for the eagerly awaited Yarrawonga Multisport Stadium have begun with the construction of the stadium scheduled to begin in early 2022.

Moira Shire Acting General Manager Graham Henderson said initial groundwork is currently underway to get the large construction started in the new year with council on the hunt for a project manager to oversee the manufacture.

“Work is well underway for the upgrading of the drainage, existing car park and the internal road to and around the carpark,” Mr Henderson said.

“We have also upgraded the power, water, communications and gas infrastructure in preparation for the start of construction for the Yarrawonga Multisport Stadium.

“The initial work stage to the stadium includes an entrance foyer, café, kitchen, tournament office, meeting room, toilets and showers, multipurpose room, umpire rooms, first aid room, and four change rooms, each including a fully accessible toilet and shower and, of course, two multipurpose courts with seating.

“Recruitment is out to appoint a project manager for both the multisport stadium and Yarrawonga library projects and it is expected the contract for the construction of the stadium will be awarded this year, with construction commencing at the beginning of 2022.”

In June this year the Yarrawonga Multisport Stadium enjoyed its successes with funding after Moira Shire Council were successful in securing $7 million in low interest loan funding to deliver stage one of the stadium before they received another $2 million as part of the 2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica said council were also hoping to acquire further grant money.

“We are still pursuing additional grant opportunities through the Federal Government and are optimistic in securing further funding,” Cr Mustica said.

“Hopefully, we will have the funding mix wrapped up in the next few months.

“We would anticipate the construction of the new Yarrawonga Library will get underway in coming months, with work on the new stadium to commence shortly after.”
