“Brutis” receives legendary status

BY JARED LOUGHNAN

Brant “Brutis” Ryan is well known around the Mulwala Water Ski Club for his proficient boat driving, incredible waterskiing knowledge, a great mentor and leader but now he will be officially regarded as a legend.

Brutis was awarded the first recipient of the newly established Mulwala Water Ski Club Legends Award by board member Kelvin Weston-Green at the club’s annual general meeting on Sunday, November 28.

He was presented the award after a stirring speech by Ski Team Co-ordinator Peter O’Neill.

“He is, without doubt, worthy to be considered the first Legend of the Mulwala Waterski Club,” Peter said.

“Brant Ryan first joined the Ski Team in 1982 at the age of 11 and for the last 39 years, has been skiing, driving, organising, encouraging, coaching, cooking, creating, drinking, defending, fathering and sometimes, heart punch threatening, the Show Team.

“For the past 18 years, Brutis has been a part of the management and coaching side of the team and I have witnessed firsthand his influence on the show.

“He has taught so many of us so much through his leadership and experience that I don’t know how the show would look, or even exist at all if it wasn’t for him.

“Highly talented in his own right, Brutis has jumped, trick skied, wakeboarded, done the comedy, announced and as most of us know him for today, driven the ski show at an extraordinarily high level that sees him mix it with the best the world over.

“As a professional he has skied and driven in the USA, Germany and Japan as well as more obscure places like Turkmenistan.

“Brutis and his amazing wife Kathy managed the world famous six Flags Show in Germany for seven years where they spent our winters living the dream in Germany but returning over summer to ski in the show and work the Pro Shop here.
