Back to school tips and tricks

Especially with two years of home learning and the uncertainty of how this school year will play out.

The best way to ensure a smooth start to the educational year is to be prepared and keep calm.

Here are a few simple back to school tips for the first day of 2022;

1. Label, name and ownership belongings - Label all your child’s belongings including the library bag and especially the school hat. Explain the concept of “lost property” to your kids, so they know how to find lost items on their own.

2. Remember the night before - Murphy’s Law states that if something can go wrong, it will. Avoid the stresses of the first morning of school by laying out school clothes the night before.

3. Make mornings organised - a morning routine that works is the key to starting the day happy, prepared and ready to leave the house with a smile.

4. Let them pack their bag - kids need to know what they have and what belongs to them. Being able to take responsibility for their own things is an important part of being a good student.

5. Keep lunchboxes easy - balance your aspirations against reality. Making sure food ideas are achievable and easy is the key to a successful lunch box, not the fanciness of your pinwheel sandwiches.

The new year brings a new school journey, which for parents can be a particularly stressful time.
