Students part of pilot ride program

BY EMMA PRIOR

Ten Year seven students at Sacred Heart College found themselves in front of the camera in early December helping the Department of Transport Victoria film several bike education videos.

During 2021 Sacred Heart College received funding from the Department of Transport Victoria to contribute to resources to enable the school to continue running the Bicycle Education Program that the Year seven Physical Education classes were involved in.

Due to the success of the program, The Department of Transport chose to use Sacred Heart to produce videos that will be used to train other instructors on best practice.

“This is to redevelop and expand our bike education program. We are making the videos for training purposes to assist our master trainers and those entering into teaching bike education,” a DTV spokesperson said.

“Sacred Heart College took part in our pilot program earlier this year and as we were not able to film at a school in Melbourne due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, we decided to come out to one of the country schools who partook in the program.

“The program hasn’t rolled out just yet, it will be in early 2022 but we shot about four or five different videos trying to promote the program as well as the all-new resources.

“There will also be grants available through VicRoads Community Grants for the purchase of bikes, helmets and any other bike safety measures.”

The students chose to participate in the video shoot being conducted by a production company on behalf of the Department of Transport with students being chosen for their exemplary demonstration of the positive behaviours in Physical Education across 2021 both at school and during online learning.

The video may also be released on VicRoads which will be confirmed early this year.
