Horizontal windmill installed in Urana
The reconstruction of the iconic 7.2m high Dexter Horizontal Windmill in Urana has finally been completed after it was partially destroyed in a bushfire nearly 30 years ago.
A $178,000 grant was secured by Federation Council in 2018 from the NSW Government to rebuild the historically significant structure.
Located on Federation Way, the instalment is sure to catch the eye of tourists and people travelling through town.
The windmill, which holds a unique link to the region’s pastoral heritage was imported to Australia prior to 1883 by Sir Samuel McCaughey from the U.S and situated on Coonong Station.
The windmill is believed to be the only one of its type in the world still working.
