Charlotte selected for State Country-Metro challenge

Local basketball talent Charlotte Woosnam was selected to represent Victoria Country in the Kumon Australia and New Zealand CountryMetro Challenge last weekend at the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South.

This is a fantastic achievement for a local athlete from Yarrawonga, who mixed it with the best Under 14 basketballers in Australia and New Zealand at this high-performance basketball tournament.

Charlotte was selected from her participation in the Country Victoria Academy program and her attendance at the elite Golden Nugget Camp held in September last year.

She also plays representative basketball for Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball and is part of the Under 14 North East Bushrangers regional team who play in the Victorian Junior Basketball Competition in Melbourne on a Friday night.

“This is an awesome opportunity for Charlotte,” said Brett Harvey, who is Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball Association’s Representative Director of Coaching and a regional Basketball Victoria Country Academy coach.

“Charlotte is an impressive player who has excellent basketball IQ and loads of talent.

“To be selected at this level and to play against the best in the state at this tournament will be a great experience for her.

“Charlotte has worked hard developing her game over the past two years and is starting to reap the reward for effort.

“She’s a fierce competitor with a great attitude and will most certainly gain from this incredible experience amongst the state’s best.

“I’ve been privileged enough to work with Charlotte, and I so look forward to watching her grow into a fantastic female athlete and continuing to achieve great things in the game!”

The Kumon Country-Metro tournament featured 128 of Australia’s best junior basketball teams across U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 boys and girls and gives athletes a chance to hone their skills and develop within the Victorian High-Performance pathway as elite preparation for Australian Junior Championships.

Congratulations Charlotte.
