Library to begin in September

By Emma Prior

At an unscheduled council meeting in February, Moira Shire Council awarded the tender of the construction to Ultra Projects Services Pty Ltd with the proviso that works are to be completed within 15 months from the date of acceptance.

Currently the last of the approvals and paperwork are being finalised.

Moira Shire Director Infrastructure Josh Lewis said council was excited that the construction of this large project would soon begin.

“Council has been working closely with relevant authorities in finalising remaining approvals for the new Yarrawonga Library before formally beginning construction,” Mr Lewis said.

“The demolition works have been completed and we are very excited to soon be commencing the build during September this year.

“This important project will not only be the new home of the Yarrawonga Library but form an important space for the community.

“It will also revitalise the Town Hall, which is already an amazing building, but will undoubtedly benefit from the planned improvements.

“We anticipate the project to be finalised by the end of 2023, working in collaboration with our construction contractor Ultra Project Services.”

The construction will be completed in two stages.

• Stage one; comprises construction of a modern library, community event and exhibition space, a commercial kitchen, storage facilities, customer service / reception areas, car parking, two outdoor spaces, a gallery and event space in the existing ground floor of the town hall, new female toilets in the existing ground floor of the town hall, and an accessible lift to the first floor of the existing town hall; and

• Stage two; a renovation of the areas of the town hall.

Following the completion of the project, council will look to offset some of the project funds by selling the current Yarrawonga Library building which has an estimated value of $670,000.

Works are set to begin on the construction of the Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct in a little over a month.
