Ian (Woofa) Davis Memorial Racing

The inaugural Ian (Woofa) Davis Memorial Race Weekend 2022 is to be conducted on August 21 and 22, which includes the big, memorial 55km race named after Woofa on Sunday.

Shepparton Cycling Club will host the big race weekend, to honour the late Yarrawonga/Mulwala local and his passion for cycling. A heart attack claimed the life of the man popularly known as ‘Woofa’ at aged 67-years on November 19, 2017.

There will be a Criterium street race along the Yarrawonga foreshore and Hunt Street on the Saturday, commencing from Bank and Ely Streets at 12.10pm.

On the Sunday, a handicapped 55km road race starting at 9.30am from just south of the Yarrawonga CFA Station in Woods Road to Wilby and return to finish on Channel Road at the brick barbecue behind the Yarrawonga Aerodrome.

Both events are for A, B and C Grades, 13-years and over, and 11 and under, all both male and female events.

Shepparton Cycling Club President Wendy Abbott described Woofa as “a local legend of cycling”, who “always made time to talk and advise kids and adults alike”.

“Woofa began racing in his 20s both on the track and on the road, riding with the Yarrawonga Cycling Club, the Hume Vets and Cobram-Barooga Cycling Club during his lifetime,” she told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.

“He competed in many track and road races including the prestigious Melbourne to Warrnambool and the Melbourne to Yarrawonga races.

“He won the Yarroweyah Wheelrace and many other championships during his cycling journey.”
