Back to school lunch ideas

BY EMMA PRIOR

Many students from preps to year 12s will be hoping to pack their backpacks, load their lunchboxes and head to school for the start of the 2022 school year in the coming weeks.

Some students will be apprehensive (especially the young ones who have spent a fair part of their first few years of school learning from home), while others will be excited. But whatever feelings are going through your household there is plenty to organise before the children will be up and ready to go.

Check out a number of tips and tricks in this week’s Yarrawonga Chronicle for everything that is needed to prepare mum and dad as well as the children for heading Back to School.

What is in your child’s lunchbox has always been a topic of contention but here are some easy school lunch ideas to ensure your child is eating everything you’re putting in their lunchboxes as well as gaining that nutritional value.

• A little piece of everything - Let your children choose a variety of veggies and fruits they want to have in their lunchbox. You’ll soon realise the food will more likely be in their bellies than in the bin.

• Healthy alternatives- If your children find sandwiches boring, try to give alternatives like biscuits, pretzels or crackers. You can also make a skewer using a meat and cheese. Some fruits such as berries can be substituted for sweet treats.
